Contrary to popular belief, beauty school is hard work. In order to become licensed, you have to put in your hours and master the skills it takes to be great at what you do. While many people think a majority of students become the typical “beauty school drop out” we know that’s not true. Here at Hair Professionals Career College, we want to encourage our students to not only become great hair stylists, estheticians, and nail technicians, but to become great students. Take Opportunities

You’ll never know until you try. To hesitate taking on opportunities that come at you is to avoid making progress. In the beauty industry it is almost impossible to learn without doing. Jump in! Don’t be afraid to make mistakes. This is what learning is all about.

Learn From Those Before You

Make friends with alumni and other licensed beauty professionals. There is so much to learn, and it doesn’t hurt to learn from everyone you can. Ask questions, take notes, and take a peek into what it’s really like to work in the industry. In addition to friends, utilize your instructors. They are here to help you, so make sure you’re getting all you can out of your time with them.

Take Note

Really, take notes. Write down everything and keep track of resources. The internet is a great place to stockpile resources and inspiration for your future. You’ll probably need to reference everything you’ve been taught at one point or another, so make an effort to keep yourself organized.

Keep Your Progress

Not only is it empowering to see your progress but you can learn from it, too. With each new technique or skill you document, you document a learning opportunity. Look back at what you’ve done before and learn from it. Ask yourself, “what did I do to overcome this challenge?”.

Have Fun!

School shouldn’t feel like an overwhelming burden on your shoulders. You should enjoy learning what you’re passionate about. Have fun during beauty school! You’re going to look back on this time and remember all the fun you had with mannequin heads and your friends. Time flies when you’re having fun!
