How to Earn Your Hair Pros Scholarship

If you’ve been following the news with Hair Professionals Career College, then you know that we’ve got thousands of dollars of scholarships that we want to give out to new students! If you haven’t heard yet, we’re giving out scholarships to high school graduates that enroll in our summer cosmetology programs! This blog will go over all the details on what the requirements to earn the scholarship are and some tips that can help you meet those requirements!

The Requirements

The scholarships we are offering are available for 2018 high school graduates who enroll at Hair Professionals Career College in one of our cosmetology courses that start on either June 12 or July 17. The scholarship amounts are as follows:

• Full-time day: $2000
• Part-time day: $2000
• Full-time night: $1000
• Part-time night: $1000
• 2 day flex: $1000
• 3 day flex: $1000

These scholarships are being offered to students based on merit, because we want each of our students to have the opportunity to earn it! We don’t factor in your high school grades or anything else, we just want to see students work hard while they are studying at Hair Pros. Here are the basic requirements to be eligible:

• Have 95% class attendance
• Maintain 90% GPA
• Graduate in the schedule you originally enrolled in
• Meet all other graduation requirements

This can be a fresh start for you if high school was difficult for you! Getting 95% attendance and a 90% GPA can be challenging for some, so we’ll cover some tips and habits that can help you to meet these requirements and earn the scholarship for your program!

How to Get 95% Attendance

Near perfect attendance may sound easy, but for some it can be quite challenging. 95% attendance means that you can only miss one class out of every 20. If you have class five days a week, that means you can only miss class once a month! Here are a few tricks and tips that can help you stay on top of managing your schedule:

Know Yourself

Everyone operates in their own ways. Some people love to wake up early and take the day head-on. Other people require more time to become alert and functional. Regardless of if you’re someone who succeeds early in the morning or later in the day, pick a schooling schedule that’s right for you and your lifestyle! For example, if you’re an early riser, the evening cosmetology class may not be best for you!

Measure Time Accurately

How many times have you lied to yourself and said you’d be in and out of the shower in 10 minutes? Everyone does this! Your best intention might be that your shower takes 10 minutes, but in reality it usually takes 15-20. The same thing can happen when hitting the snooze button on your alarm. You might say “just five more minutes”, but then it could end up being a half hour of trying to stay asleep! If this sounds like something you do, make sure you are giving yourself the extra time you need to complete things without being rushed!

Give Yourself Wiggle Room

Life can be busy, and that’s just fine! If you’re someone who finds yourself in back-to-back commitments each day, just make sure you have a little wiggle room between your activities just in case one runs long. Nothing is worse than being late for something and having it be out of your hands!

Be Prepared

There are many ways you can help get yourself out the door and to your commitments on time. Do you normally pack a lunch? Make sure you do that the night before. Do you normally smash that snooze button over and over again? Set your alarm earlier! Do what you can to make sure that there are no obstructions or interruptions to you being on time to class!

How to Earn a 90% GPA

If high school was challenging for you, the good news is that beauty school is often more manageable for people with different learning styles. Whether you’re a visual, verbal, or hands-on learner, beauty school is somewhere you can be successful! Beauty school often incorporates elements of all learning styles to make it easier for anyone to learn. This section covers some of the most common tips you can follow to be an exemplary beauty school student.

Manage Your Time

Stay Ahead: Each day only has 24 hours, so you need to prioritize each minute to make sure you get the most out of it! It’s important to avoid taking on more than you can handle in a day. If you overcommit and something goes wrong, your entire schedule could be thrown off! Never aim to be on time, strive to be ahead of schedule. If you’re not ahead, you’re behind!

Prioritize Need, Should, and Want: There are so many things to get done in a day, but a limited amount of time to do it. Prioritizing things by need, should, and want can help you decide what is the most important each day.

• Need — Things you need to do each day are not optional. Eating, sleeping, paying bills, and attending your cosmetology classes should all be categorized as things you need to do.
• Should — Things you should do are things you need to do, but maybe not today. Reviewing for an exam, cleaning the house, or doing laundry are all things you should do, but not if you have things you need to do first.
• Want — Things you want to do are just that, things that you don’t need to get done but if you had your way, they’d be the only things on your to-do list. Watching Netflix, sleeping in, or going out with friends are some examples of things you want to do.

Balancing the things you have to get done in a day is really important. Tackle the stuff you need to get done first, and then some things that you should do. Only do things you want to do once you have everything else handled first! If you master this strategy for prioritizing your responsibilities you’ll find that you have time to do some of everything!

Know When to Ask For Help

Asking for help can be intimidating, especially if it seems that everyone else around you knows what’s going on. When you have questions, ask! Many times there are other people around you with similar questions, so by asking questions you are helping your classmates out! If there is a subject you are struggling with, the Hair Pros staff is committed to helping you be successful, so don’t be afraid to ask your instructors for assistance if something isn’t clicking!

Be Organized

Keep careful track of all of your assignments and tests so you don’t forget them! Everyone has different ways of being organized, and there’s no correct way. Some people prefer to write notes, keep events in a planner, or have a written calendar to refer to. Other people will use apps on their phone, or use other methods to not forget anything.

In addition to organizing your schedule, make sure you keep your cosmetology or esthetics kit neatly organized. Some kits come with tons of items and tools, so it can be easy for things to get disorganized. Take time to keep things orderly so you are prepared for the day and look professional for your clients!

How to Apply for the Scholarship

So you’re confident you can meet the requirements for this scholarship, what’s next? How do you apply? It’s simple! On the day you enroll you fill out the scholarship paperwork so you are aware of the requirements to earn the scholarship. If you graduate and meet the requirements, you will be awarded the scholarship automatically. If you have paid off all of your course fees, then a check will be issued to you. If you still have unpaid fees after training, you can apply the scholarship to the outstanding ledger.
